Overview

Step on board a fast, comfortable boat in Naples and spend a full day discovering Capri exactly the way it should be seen: from the sea. This Private Sea Day Boat Tour of Capri Island gives you a complete day on the water with a scenic crossing, a full coastal loop with grottoes and Faraglioni, and plenty of time to swim and relax.

You travel on a private, elegant boat with powerful engines, wide cushions, shade and easy access to the water. Together with your skipper, you can decide if you’d like to stop on land in Capri or prefer to stay at sea and enjoy every corner of the coastline.

This private Capri sea day is designed for guests who want to spend most of their time on the water, with the freedom to add a land stop only if they really want it. You leave from Naples on a fast boat, cross the bay in comfort and spend the rest of the day circling Capri, stopping to swim whenever the water looks irresistible.

The atmosphere on board is relaxed and informal: sunbathing at the bow, shade when you need it, music if you like, and a skipper always ready to suggest the best coves for a swim. If at some point you decide you’d like to get off in Marina Grande for a stroll, a gelato or a quick visit to Capri town, your captain can arrange it – but nothing is forced. It’s your sea day, your way.

What to Expect

Departure from Naples

Your day starts at the marina in Naples, where you meet your skipper and board your fast boat. The boat is private, reserved just for you and your group, with padded seating, sun deck cushions, a shaded area and a swim ladder for easy access to the water. After a short safety briefing, you leave the harbor and head out across the Bay of Naples.

As the skyline of Naples and Vesuvius slides behind you, you can get comfortable on deck with a drink and enjoy the first part of your sea day.

First Views of Capri from the Water

After around an hour of navigation, Capri appears ahead. Cliffs, terraces and villas begin to take shape as you approach the island.

Travelling on a private boat means you don’t have to go straight into the harbor if you don’t want to. Instead, your skipper begins to show you the coastline: small coves, caves carved into the rock and the changing colors of the sea. Based on the conditions, you’ll agree together on the direction of the coastal loop, and whether to include the Blue Grotto as a first stop.

👉🏼 Want to prioritize the Blue Grotto or the Faraglioni? Tell your skipper at the beginning – the day is flexible.

Blue Grotto Area (Optional Stop)

If the sea is calm and you are interested in visiting the Blue Grotto (Grotta Azzurra), your skipper will time the approach to try to avoid the longest queues. Arriving earlier in the day usually helps keep the wait shorter.

As on any Capri tour, entering the grotto itself is managed by local rowboats and requires a separate ticket, paid on site. You can decide whether to:

  • Transfer to the small rowboats and go inside for the classic “blue light” experience, or

  • Stay on your boat and enjoy the coastline from outside, keeping more time for swimming and other spots

If you prefer to skip the Blue Grotto entirely, we simply continue the loop and use that time for more swims and quiet coves.

Coastal Loop: Caves, Cliffs and Faraglioni

Once the Blue Grotto area is behind you (or skipped), the island really starts to reveal itself. This is where a private sea day boat tour makes all the difference: you’re close to the rocks, you can stop when you want, and you’re never watching the clock.

Marina Grande from the Sea

You’ll pass Marina Grande, Capri’s main harbor, but this time you’re looking at it from the outside – from the sea, not from a busy pier. From here the boat stays close to the cliffs as you slide along the coastline. Little by little, you start noticing details: tiny stairways carved into the rock, terraces with lemon trees, and small inlets that most people never see.

The “Polyp Cave” – A Skipper’s Secret

Soon you reach a cave many local skippers casually call the “Polyp Cave.” It is not marked on maps and you won’t find it highlighted in brochures. Inside, the rock has been sculpted by wind and sea into shapes that look like clusters of bubbles or the suction cups of an octopus.

White Grotto and Hidden Coves

Continuing along the coast, we reach the White Grotto, a tall, bright sea cave where the limestone reflects the light in soft colors. The skipper slows down so you can take photos and look up at the rock formations above you.

Between the White Grotto and the Natural Arch there are several small inlets and quiet coves that are ideal for the first long swim of the day. With a private open boat, we can anchor exactly where the water looks best, and you can:

  • Dive in and swim in clear, deep water

  • Snorkel along the rocks and see what lives below the surface

  • Relax on board while others swim, with the cliffs rising around you

The Natural Arch from the Water

A little further on, the Natural Arch appears high above, like a stone window suspended between sky and sea. Many visitors only see it from the land path; from the water you really understand its height and shape. The skipper can position the boat so you can take photos and simply look up and enjoy the scene.

Faraglioni: Capri’s Signature Sea Stacks

Soon after, you reach the Faraglioni, Capri’s famous rock stacks rising from the sea like three stone giants. For most guests, this is the highlight of the coastal loop.

Because you’re on a private boat, your skipper can:

  • Slow down and circle the rocks for photos

  • Approach the best angles for views back to the island

  • If sea conditions allow, pass through the central arch for the classic Capri moment

Crossing under the arch with the light coming through and the sea around you is one of those memories that tends to stay with people long after they’ve left Italy.

Marina Piccola: Swim Stop and Relax

After the Faraglioni, you reach Marina Piccola, one of the most scenic bays on Capri. Here the water is usually calm and clear, and you have a direct view back to the Faraglioni.

This is a perfect place to:

  • Anchor and enjoy a long swim stop

  • Use the snorkel gear to explore the rocky seabed

  • Stretch out on the cushions with a drink while others swim around the boat

👉🏼 If you’d like to go ashore in this area (for example to a beach club or restaurant), you can discuss it with your skipper in advance and see what’s feasible on the day.

Punta Carena, Green Grotto and the Quiet Side of Capri

Continuing the loop, you’ll cruise past the Punta Carena lighthouse, standing on the southwestern tip of the island, and then along a quieter stretch of coastline. Here you’ll find the Green Grotto and other coves where the water takes on deep emerald tones.

On calmer days, this side of Capri can feel surprisingly peaceful, even when the island is busy. Your skipper will choose where to stop for additional swims based on sea conditions and how much time you’d like to spend in the water.

Optional Stop on Land in Capri (On Request)

This tour is designed primarily as a sea day, but you can absolutely add a land stop if you wish.

If you’d like to set foot on the island, your skipper can bring you to Marina Grande so you can:

  • Take the funicular up to Capri town for a walk through the Piazzetta and the main streets

  • Enjoy a gelato, an aperitivo or a quick look at the shops and viewpoints

Because time at sea is limited, we usually recommend keeping the land stop short and focused, so you don’t have to rush the coastal loop and swim stops. Whether you choose to go ashore or stay on the boat the whole time is completely up to you.

Cruise Back to Naples

Toward the end of the afternoon, the boat points back toward Naples. The return crossing is a chance to stretch out on deck, look back at Capri fading into the distance and enjoy the last part of your day on the water.

You arrive in Naples with the feeling of having spent a real day at sea: not just “getting to Capri”, but living it from the water, at your own rhythm.

Why Choose the Private Sea Day Boat Tour of Capri Island from Naples?

  • More sea time, less stress: This tour is designed as a real sea day where you spend most of your time on the water, swimming and cruising around Capri, without juggling ferry schedules, big groups or fixed timetables.

  • Fast, comfortable boat: You travel on a private fast boat – quick enough to cross the bay efficiently, but spacious and stable enough to relax, sunbathe and move around comfortably, with shade, cushions and an easy swim ladder.

  • Flexible, not scripted: You decide with your skipper how to balance the day: more swim stops, more coastal cruising, or a short visit on land in Capri. The island loop is clear, but the rhythm is yours.

  • Close to the coastline: Unlike larger boats, a fast boat can slip into smaller coves and get closer to caves and rock formations, giving you a more intimate, “up‑close” view of Capri’s cliffs and sea caves.

  • Private from start to finish: The boat is only for you and your group, so you decide the music, the atmosphere and how relaxed or active you want the day to be. No loud microphones, no fixed commentary – just your captain, the boat and Capri.

Ideal For

  • Couples who want a fun, relaxed Capri day with lots of time on the water and the freedom to decide last‑minute whether to step on the island or not.

  • Families who want a safe, private boat with easy access to the sea and the flexibility to adapt stops to children’s energy and mood.

  • Groups of friends looking for a full “sea day” with swimming, music and iconic views, splitting the cost of a private boat.
